"An individual step in character training is to put responsibility on the individual.” Baden Powell
What is an Event Activities Representative (EAR)?
Scouting
is organized in Patrols, and everyone is given the chance to share in the work
and the fun. Scouts understand this. What is less obvious is
that this is the same way Districts are organized. Districts are organized in
Units, and it is no less true that everyone also needs to share in the work
just as they do through the patrol structure. To show our Scouts the importance of taking
responsibility and being helpful to larger group plans, the District is asking
all units to participate in a new program. Each unit who wants to participate
in district events such as Camporees, Derbies, Merit Badge Fairs, etc. will be
asked to appoint one representative from their unit, and provide the contact
information for SPLs/Crew Presidents.
What does and EAR do?
EARs will be responsible for:
1. Getting information to Units about District Events. EARS must be willing to receive and send information through email.
2. Completing on-time registration for Units to events.
3. Attending occasional meetings (either in person or by phone via conference).
4. Facilitating units to sign-up to help as needed.
5. Providing input and feedback on what District events units want, and evaluating events afterwards.
